Why develop beds for nursing homes
2025-09-11
The use of beds in nursing homes is not a new concept. This bed is still a bed that has been slept on for a lifetime. It just changed its name. Over the past 50 years, more than 95% of elderly people have stayed at home until their death, and this situation will not change in the next 50 years. The development of elderly care beds is not meant to cause a big fight, but to carry out aging friendly renovations on the existing basis, adding smart mattresses, visiting community doctors, volunteer services, etc., in order to partially meet the basic needs of disabled and dementia elderly people for survival and life. In this way, the elderly can rely on it. This is necessary, especially for elderly people living alone. It is much more comfortable than living in a nursing home, and the cost is also very low. From a perspective, this also saves social costs.
As of the end of 2020, there were 38000 elderly care institutions in China, an increase of 37.2% compared to the end of 2015. Next, China will vigorously develop home-based community elderly care services and make "beds for nursing homes" one of the important directions for the future development of elderly care services. The above information was disclosed at a press conference held by the State Council on the 23rd. At present, China's elderly care services mainly include "home care", "community care", and "institutional care", but most elderly people still prefer to choose home care. With the deepening of aging and the increase of disabled elderly, family elderly care is facing challenges in terms of care energy, time, and professional ability, and the phenomenon of "one disabled elderly person dragging down one family" has also emerged. In response to these issues, during the 13th Five Year Plan period, China has invested 5 billion yuan in 203 regions to carry out pilot reforms in home-based and community-based elderly care services, creating distinctive regional elderly care models, and continuously increasing institutional elderly care beds. As of the end of 2020, there were 38000 elderly care institutions nationwide, a year-on-year increase of 10.4% and a growth of 37.2% compared to the end of 2015; There are a total of 8.238 million nursing beds in various institutions and communities, an increase of 22.5% from the end of 2015. Gao Xiaobing stated that the "family elderly care bed" is an innovative measure in the reform of elderly care services that is in line with the actual situation at the grassroots level, effectively achieving the coordination of home, community, and institutional elderly care services. Family elderly care bed "refers to the extension of professional elderly care services from elderly care institutions and community elderly care service centers to families, providing elderly care services such as aging adaptation, professional nursing, remote monitoring, etc. for disabled elderly families, greatly reducing the difficulties of family elderly care. She further explained that the "family elderly care bed" not only saves the bed fees for institutional elderly care, but also enables the elderly to access professional services for institutional elderly care, and allows them to obtain professional services in a familiar environment. From the perspective of elderly care service providers, it saves on the construction and land costs of institutional elderly care. Related pilot cities have found that when reaching a certain scale, the cost of using beds in nursing homes is 1/5 of that of institutional nursing beds. Although 'beds for nursing homes' are an important direction for future development, they cannot be blindly developed and require corresponding full support. Next, relevant departments should formulate standards for beds for nursing homes and include them in the scope of supervision of elderly care services. At the same time, they should also take elderly care service institutions as the support point, make good arrangements and introduce policies to support the construction of beds for nursing homes, and provide more effective family elderly care services. Gao Xiaobing said. Official data shows that as of the end of 2019, the population aged 60 and above in China is about 254 million. During this period, the elderly population in China will exceed 300 million and enter a moderate aging stage. Actively responding to population aging has become China's national strategy. Looking forward to the prospects of elderly care services in China, in order to implement active response, Provide support for the national strategy of aging population, China will improve the level of elderly care services and vigorously develop home-based and community-based elderly care services, so that all elderly people can enjoy home-based and community-based elderly care
